What is a Blog?

“Blog” is an abbreviated version of “weblog,” which is a term used to describe web sites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. A blog is a frequently updated, personal website featuring diary-type commentary and links to articles on other Web sites. Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects.
Many blogs focus on a particular topic, such as web design, home staging, sports, or mobile technology. Some are more eclectic, presenting links to all types of other sites. And others are more like personal journals, presenting the author’s daily life and thoughts.
Generally speaking (although there are exceptions), blogs tend to have a few things in common:
- A main content area with articles listed chronologically, newest on top. Often, the articles are organized into categories.
- An archive of older articles.
- A way for people to leave comments about the articles.
- A list of links to other related sites, sometimes called a “blogroll”.
- One or more “feeds” like RSS, Atom or RDF files.
Some blogs may have additional features beyond these.

Getting Started
Posted on December 9th, 2008 No commentsWe are hosting a pilot project that provides all Edmonds staff access to free Word Press Blogs. These Blogs are accessible both within and externally from the Edmonds school district. The Blogs can be used for classroom blogs, special projects, etc.
To get started select “Log in Here” (found on the menu to the right at the bottom) and log in with your school district user name and password. this will create an account for you in the system. A BLOG can then be create for you. To create the BLOG email Sam Gladstein once you have logged into the system.

First Time Logging in

To log into the Edmonds WordPress Blog site you need to use your Edmonds School District account. This is the same username and password you use to log into any school district computer or your Digital Locker.
Note: This is the same username used for your Skyward Student access minus any spaces or special characters (-’~ etc). However you most likely have a different password for your school district account or WebTrekker than you have for Skyward.If you have not logged into the Edmonds system before (digital locker or a computer in the schools) you must first go to webtrekker at http://webtrekker.edmonds.wednet.edu and log in with your district username (first five of your last name + first three of your first name + 000 (zeros) – maybe 001, 002, etc) and the default password (first 4 characters of your last name + month of birth + day of birth). If this is your first time logging in you will be prompted to change your password. Your can use any password you want.
For Example:
My first name is Sam and my last name is Gladstein and I was born June 5th therefore my username is gladssam000 (that’s three zeros – not o’s) and my default password is glad0605 – all lowercase). If I have a more common last name such as Smith my username might be smithsam001, 0r smithsam002, or even smithsam009.
