June 19th, 2011

I apologize for the tardiness of this post. I was out sick on Thursday and had a meeting on Friday.

Going into the last week, we are going to be busy, busy. Each day has a  dress-up theme in celebration of Spirit Week this last week of school.

******* Please remember that dressing up is optional. We encourage it but it is by no means required. ******

Monday- Dress as your future self day (dress in clothes that you would wear to your future job in 20 years)  I will be dressing as a teacher. (haha)

Tuesday – Colors of the Rainbow Day – Try to wear each color of the rainbow in your outfit for the day (Field day from 1:10-3:10)

Wednesday – Sports Day – Wear attire to represent your favorite team.

Thursday – Formal Day – Dress in your best (6th grade graduation)

Friday – Wacky and Crazy From Head to Toe Day…Need I say more?  ( Last day of school – dismissal at 11:40 - No hot lunch on this day)

Various school supplies will be coming home each day so that we can begin to lean out desks gradually, rather than bringing everything home on the final day. There will also be no homework or spelling words this last week of school.

Thank you for all of your support over the course of this year. It has been a pleasure to have all of your children in my classroom.

June 10

June 11th, 2011

Wow! What a week it has been. You can tell it is just about summer time. The weather is getting better and the kiddos are antsy.

Tuesday, June 14 is the Beverly Fun Run. Our class will be running from 9-9:30 AM. If anyone would like to volunteer to help count laps for room 4 and pin lap recording sheets to the back of kids’ shirts, I would be most appreciative. Let me know if you would like to help by email.

Since the deadline has passed for the BBQ lunch sheets to be turned in, if you have not turned one in, your student will be expected to bring a sack lunch from home on Tuesday. This is because there will be no other lunch service provided. I received one form that was signed with a purple marker but with no name for the child. If this rings a bell, let me know.

Our M-Point party will be on Wednesday, June 15th after lunch. The kids voted and they wanted another pajama party. Students can wear pajamas and they may bring stuffed animals/pillows/blankets. All of the items they bring must be brought to the room the day of the party and taken at the end of that day. I will provide a small snack for the kids and an appropriate movie.

Have a nice weekend all!!!

Hello All,

BBQ lunch forms were sent home yesterday for June 14th. If your child is planning to buy lunch and/or you are planning to attend the Fun Run and would like to buy a lunch, that form must be filled out and back to me by next Wednesday, June 8th.

Fundraiser forms for the Fun Run will also be coming home with your students today. These donations will be used to raise funds for Beverly afterschool activities. All students will have to turn in their pledgesheets on June 13th, regardless of participation.

Lastly, Overdue book notices will also be sent home today. Please look over them carefully as to avoid accumulating any more fines owed.

This week and next week, the children will have, and will be working on, problem solving skills. We have talked about what problem solving looks like and what we can to to make sure we can talk out or avoid creating new problems on the playground and in the classroom.  Please ask your student what they can do to be a problem solver at school.

The kiddos who worked their hardest at being a problem solver this week were:

Aria, Bryanna, Rylee, Taylor, Bailey, Lucas, Matthew, Maren, Kayla, Kendrick, Dominic, Kendra, Kaisha, Jasmine, Taejin, Isaac, and Olivia. Thank you all for your hard work and keep it up through this coming week.

Yesterday, our classroom buddies visited and we created a fun pattern art project. They will be bringing those home sometime next week. The kids were very excited because we have not visited with the 5th graders for quite a while.

Please have a safe and fun holiday weekend.   : )

All of the students this week have been working on good work habitsin the classroom. The majority of them have really stepped up to earn recognition and will be rewarded for their efforts.

Congratulations to:Bryanna, Rylee, Taylor, Lucas, Matthew, Maren, Charlie, Kieran, Kayla, Kendric, Priscilla, Dominic, Logan, Kaisha, Jasmine, Carson, Taejin, Isaac, Olivia, and Johnathan. These students have all made the practice of good work habits their priority for the week. Awesome Job!!

Today, we took a math and spelling test. Please look for these to come home on Monday in your students’ homework folders. To end a day of testing, we made some very fun designs using diagonals and patterns. When these are all done, they will be sent home to see the hard work the kiddos put in.

I have had some parents ask me for clarification about Skate Night tonight. Skate Night will be from 5-7 P.M. at Lynnwood Bowl and Skate tonight.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the sun while it lasts : )

This last week has been rough with student behavior. This next week, the class and I will be working on the skill of “good work habits” in the classroom. We will be modeling and talking about what this practice looks like in the classroom and how we can use our time most effectively.  Ask your student what good work habits look like in the classroom.

Last week, the class worked on the skill of “Active Listening”.  I would like to recognize the students who have done a great job studying and implementing this skill each day in the classroom.

Congratulations To:  Bryanna, Taylor, Matthew, Lucas, Kayla, Kendrick, Dominic, Kendra, Kaisha, Jasmine, Priscilla, Taejin, Isaac and Olivia.  All of you have done an amazing job this week of active listening. Keep up the great work! I am so proud of you!

Have a nice weekend!!

This week has been a challenge for some of the kids. In class, we are trying to refocus using the skill of active listening. Each day we have a meeting discussing what active listening looks like and how we can apply it in everything we do. Ask your children about the 4 steps to active listening.

Progress reports will be sent home on Monday with the students in HW folders. Please look over how your child is performing in the classroom, sign the document and have your child return it to me on Tuesday in their HW folders. I will also be sending home the end of the year math pre-assessment on Monday, so you can see how your child is performing.

I hope all families have an amazing Mother’s Day and enjoy the giftes the students have made to celebrate this special day!

It has been an exciting week around these parts. The field trip went very well. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered as chaperons and came to the zoo with us. The kids had a blast!

The  Coins for Kids Drive ends today. Thank you for all of your generosity in these economically strapping times. Clothes for Kids is a great cause and they have thanked us for our support helping to maintain their program.

Have a nice weekend….they say it might be sunny (knock on wood). If it is, I hope you all get out in it.

What a week it has been! There has been so much going on to prepare for Open House.

Thank you to all of the parents that were able to attend the concert and come into the classroom last night. It was a lot of fun watching the kiddos giving the instructions; showing you how to build mobiles and play the game “Pig”.

Our 2nd grade field trip to the Woodland Park Zoo is coming up on Wednesday, April 27. I still have a few children who have not turned in their permission slips and/or payment for their zoo ticket. I will be sending home e-mails today to those families.

Today, the kids worked with a partner to create a Earth Day art project that will be displayed in the room. Ask them about what their job was while completing their project.

Have a great (and for me, a much needed) weekend!

April 15th

April 15th, 2011

The first week back for the kids has been pretty productive. Students are still getting back into the swing of things and routines. Today we played some math games in the classroom and each student created a fun, art project that will be on display at Open House.

Open House will be from 7 – 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 in Room 4. During this time, your child will take you on a tour of the classroom; showing you past projects, new things we are learning in the classroom and, they might even have a little challenge for you as well.  All 2nd and 3rd graders are expected to be present for their musical performance that will begin at 6:30 p.m.; 30 minutes prior to Open House.  I hope to see you all there!!

Coins for Kids bags will be making their way home with your children today. I know in the current economy, times are difficult for a lot of people. Collecting coins in this bag and sending them back to school with your students helps the “Clothes for Kids” foundation a great deal. This organization provides clothes for children in the area who may not be able to afford them. It is with your donations that they are able to continue to serve our community. These bags will be sent back and forth from the school to the home in homework folders.

Lastly, please send in your child’s permission slips and checks/cash ($7.25) for the zoo ASAP. I will send home an email mid-week of next week for those permission slips I still have not received.

Thank you and have a great weekend!
