March 31st

March 31st, 2011

The kiddos are extremely exited for Spring Break coming up next week. Your students will have a guest teacher tomorrow because I am heading up to 5th grade camp to visit with my former students from the beginning of this year.

Field trip permission slips are coming home with your student’s homework folder. Please fill this out and return it as soon as possible. The admission to the zoo will be $7.25  PER PERSON.  This means if you plan to volunteer to come on this trip as a chaperone, your admission will be $7.25  as well. We only have so much room on the buses, so if you would like to volunteer to come with your child and be in charge of a group of kiddos, please e-mail me at  marlettom@edmonds.wednet.edu and let me know. If we run out of room on the bus and you would still like to attend, you have the option of meeting us at the zoo and leaving from there. We will be leaving school at 9:00 AM and returning at       3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 27.

I hope everyone has a restful and wonderful Spring Break!!  : )

March 25th

March 25th, 2011

The students have been working well this week. They have gotten a bit more talkative, but I think some of that is because of Spring and the kiddos want to be outside. They are also anticipating that long week off….I think I am too.  : )

We had an assembly on Wednesday featuring Chinese Acrobats. The children really enjoyed this. Today, we went to our 5th grade buddy classroom to do a craft. They love time with their buddies.

Just a heads up:

I will be sending home book bags in some students’ homework folders starting on Monday. The book I send home is not meant to replace the books your child reads at home for practice, but to supplement them with “Just-Right” reading books that are tailored to their reading level. Reading this book each night before their own book choice will help your child build confidence with new text, improve fluency and increase understanding. I have picked the first book this week for each child. In future weeks, I will try my hardest to have the kids pick the books that they are interested in that are at their reading level.

**Lastly, On April 27, the 2nd grade classes will be taking a field trip to the Woodland Park Zoo. I will be sending out information about costs and chaperones soon. Please look for more informarion in your students’ homework folder this coming week.**

Have a nice weekend.

March 18th

March 18th, 2011

We find ourselves at the end of another short week. The kiddos worked hard this week. We also had a bunch of fun at our Pajama Party on Wednesday.

The spelling lesson for this week was cut extremely short due to the half day and the party we threw on Wednesday. The spelling words will remain the same this week (Unit 17) so that we can go into more depth of understanding with the rule. Since the scores were not what I was expecting on the spelling tests, I will allow any student that scored a “2″ or a “1″ the chance to have a re-take of the quiz on Thursday, March 24. I will then record the highest of the two scores.

Our assembly on bullying yesterday, put on by the Taproot Theater, was very beneficial for the students…and very entertaining as well.

Have a wonderful, relaxng weekend.

March 11th

March 11th, 2011

What a nice week it has been. The kids have worked so hard and have done a great job paying attention in the classroom.

The kids earned their 15th “M-Point” this week. This entitles them to a classroom party which we have scheduled for Wednesday, March 16th. The students chose a “Pajama Party” theme. I am allowing them to bring in a pillow and a stuffed animal if they choose.  They will be responsible for all of the items they bring to the classroom. I have told them that I will provide popcorn for them. Since we just finished the read aloud “Matilda” in the classroom, we will be watching the movie “Matilda” during the party. (Though this movie is rated PG, I have screened it to make sure that there is no inappropriate language.) If you have a concern about allowing your child to see the movie, please shoot me an e-mail.

Remember, tomorrow is the Beverly Carnival. I will be there between 11 and 12 manning the ticket booth. Hope to see you there!!

March 4th

March 4th, 2011

A full week of school…can you believe it?!?!  It took a while for the kiddos to get back into the routine after these past crazy weeks, but we seem to have made some good progress this week. My wife came in today and we lead a craft to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Wednesday birthday. Be sure to ask your kids about it.

Class picture day is next Friday, March 11th. Flyers will be coming home if you would like to purchase pictures. If you would like to buy, please send an envelope and check back in your students’ HW folder. Also, I still have some forms to pre-order year books. If you somehow did not get one or need another, please e-mail me to let me know so I can send it home with your child.

Please read the important information about the carnival in the “Information” section of my page. We are still looking for volunteers to run our booth on Saturday, March 12th.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

February 25th

February 25th, 2011

What a crazy week! Between the substiute and the snow, I have hardly had time to get settled since I got back from Disney. I had a great time and I am ready, and excited,  to jump back into our learning routines. It has been difficult for the kiddos to get any flow since they got back because of the short week and substitute and all. We’ll get ‘em back in the swing of things yet!

We have a math quiz next week on Tuesday so be sure to ask your kids what they need to know on Monday night.

Have a safe, and hopefully,  warmer weekend!

February 17th, 2011

What a crazy week! I would like to thank all of the parents the contributed to the success of the class Valentine’s Day Party. The kiddos had a bunch of great food to eat. They had a great time.  : )

Since it will be such a short week next week, there will be no new spelling words to study. The students will still have math homework and will be expected to read 15 min per night.

The students will have a substitute on Wednesday, Feb 23rd. I am flying out on Saturday to California to take my wife to Disneyland for her birthday. She and I are super excited!!  I will be back on the Thursday following the President’s Day Weekend.

Have a great weekend!!

February 11th

February 10th, 2011

This has been a great week of behavior in Room 4! The kiddos are being very attentive and trying their best when completing their assignments. Monday is Valentine’s Day and I am excited. Our classroom party will be from 1:15 p.m. until about 2:20 p.m. There will be healthy food and fun crafts. I am also excited because Valentine’s Day also happens to be my birthday!

Remember that students have no school next Friday, February 18th.  Hope eveyone has a relaxing weekened….I know I plan to : )

February 4th

February 4th, 2011

This has been a pretty good week productively. The kiddos are still working on not blurting in the classroom and making smooth transitions between subjects. They continue to show improvement.

We have just about completed our community mural in our classroom. All of the buildings turned out great. The kids put a lot of effort in to make it look the best they could.

Just a reminder that we have our Valentine’s Day “Healthy Pink and Red” party coming up. I have a few parents who have offered to bring healthy red and pink food, but I am looking for just a couple more if possible. Please e-mail me if you would like to help out.

Have a great week!

January 28th

January 27th, 2011

Wow! That week just flew by. The students have really been working hard on controlling their blurting in the classroom this week. I am very happy with the progress they have made. They are listening to their peers when they share and they are raising their hands and quietly waiting to be called on.

Tomorrow is a teacher work day…which means no school for the kiddos. I hope all of you have a restful weekend : )
